Asker asked:

I’m 18, 188lbs and I don’t have the best build. By no means am I large, but I feel my body fat level is really high.

I feel weightlifting will build muscle but I’ll get bigger than I’d like.

How can I thin down and, I guess, tone up?

What foods should I eat?

Cardio or Weights?

Thanks!

Janet

wieght lifting burns way more calories than cardio. try doing wieght lifting to build musle and cardio to tone up.

Cardio burns fat and builds muscle. Work on cardio and do some weight training with light weights lots of reps. Get used to a low fat diet. Its pretty easy to adapt to. By doing cardio it increases your metabolism which in turns helps you to burn more fat. Dont be as concerned about your weight(muscle weighs more than fat) Have your BMI checked. And go by that.

If you’re trying to lose weight, the best way to go is with a combination of aerobics AND strength training. If you’re not looking to get bigger via the weights, stick to light weights with high repetitions. This will slim you down while building a moderate amount of muscle. The end result? You’ll look great and feel good about yourself.

Furthermore, when you start to lift weights and build muscles you’ll probably find that you actually get a little smaller, as muscle cells are denser than fat cells. Later on, if you decide that you want to beef up, go with heavier weights and fewer repetitions. Good luck!
