building muscle
jesus asked:

I’m male, 19 years old, 5′11 185lbs, I’m fairly muscular and I’m currently working out hard to put on more muscle mass. My ideal weight for myself in my current condition is about 178lbs or so, however, I have been told that doing cardio such as running is counter productive for muscle growth. Is this true and is it possible for me to maintain very low body fat while building muscle or is the extra weight just something I have to deal with for the meantime until I get the size I want?

    muscle weighs more than fat. so you shouldn’t worry too much about your weight. I’d just gain muscle and do cardio because cardio is a good way to slim down.

    you must increase the amount of reps or the weight lifted every single workout (or as close to this as humanly possible) in order to ignite muscle growth.
    Muscle = protein. In order for muscle tissue to repair itself after your weight-training sessions it needs an abundance of protein
    a good rule of thumb is to take 1 gram of protein for every pound of total body weight. So a 160 lb man would take around 160 grams of protein per day. My favorite sources of protein include

    * Chicken
    * Steak
    * Pork
    * Eggs
    * Cheese
    * Whey Protein Powder Shakes
    * Seafood – tuna, prawns, salmon…
    * Nuts
    * Seeds
    As far as cardio is concerned If you are a beginner who has to fight for every ounce he gains (e.g. a classic hardgainer), I suggest that you lay off cardio almost entirely for at least 8-12 weeks. Get your training and diet down and pack on some size.
    If you are beyond the beginner level you should always be doing some kind of cardio on a regular basis.
