When you first start working out you won’t be able to shoot. Your arms would be really sore and you wouldn’t be able to shoot for about a few weeks. If you keep practicing, you’ll eventually get used to your added strength and you’ll shoot as good as you did before you started working out. Ray Allen (the best shooter in the NBA) is pretty strong.

Just ask Michael Jordan or Ray Allen who almost always lifted before a game. For a center or forward, like me, lifting is a very good idea for rebounding and post moves. I really wouldn’t know how it would effect a guard, but the strength would come slowly, so you won’t just start throwing up bricks.

no, look at every nba and almost every college player, they all have strong arms and they can still shoot. the added strength probably(maybe a 1% chance) won’t affect your shot. the only way it will is if you become VERY SIGNIFICANTLY stronger and have to use less power on your shot but it is almost impossible to become so much stronger that it will affect your shot. it can affect your shot if you don’t get proper rest and are sore after working out. follow the guidelines on this website for basketball training

your dad is right in theory that bulking up the arm will throw off your shooting from where it was…but the same can be said with natural growth.
You will have to adjust your shot as you get older, or stronger, or taller, etc.
If you shoot the same shot from 6th grade all the way to the 12th, you are not going to make many shot by 12th.
he point. Building up arm strength (naturally in the gym) WILL help your game in more ways than one.
But you will have to adjust your shot a little…but it will come naturally as you grow. It will not be a major change thats needed one day..you will just adjust as you go.
I wouldnt worry too much about it. I would work out andkeep shooting.
Looking at Tyler Hansbrough with UNC right now. He is getting stronger every year and adjusting his shot to go with it…He doesnt have an outside shot right now though, so I’m sure he is working to expand that. He would be a good role model to keep an eye on.
Someone mentioned MJ…which is an obvious one to watch footage of. If you watch some of the film that was made in his final 4-5 years, he stayed in the gym working out his arms.
