building muscle
flavenoid asked:

If so which ones? I’m in my mid 30′s and just started working out again, and I want to build muscle mass. Am I better off just sticking to the weights without anything or would a supplement help me put on some extra muscle and increase my strength at a greater rate?

You don’t necessarily need supplements to build lean muscle mass. You can still stick to whole foods and quality protein foods. Complex carbohydrates ie whole oats, sweet potatoes, essential fatty acids ie olive oil, fish oil, also available from oily fishes like salmon and lean protein ie chicken/turkey breast, egg whites, fish, lean beef should form part of your diet.

A supplement is for convenience because sometimes you can’t cook 4-6 meals per day. Also a supplement is important for post workout. When your muscles are depleted after a grueling workout, you need to replenish them and a protein shake does the job much more easier and faster than whole foods. A liquid meal is advised and a protein like whey protein shake can get absorbed quickly and easily in your muscles, repair and give them amino acids and vital nutrients for growth. So if you are weight training, I would recommend a combination of whole foods and supplements like whey protein powder.
