nikonikoneko asked:

I know during you train and do weights or weight machine, you burn calories but do you burn calories after? My boyfriend tells me that I burn calories even a day after I work out if my muscles are still sore. They are trying to regenerate new muscle cells thus needing more calories. Is this true?

Are you breathing? Your heart pumping? You are burning calories. A calorie is the energy required to raise 1 cc of water by one degree celcius. So just the act of converting sugars, proteins and carbs into energy burns calories.

The soreness you are feeling is due to the stresses you have placed on the muscles and ligaments. When you workout, you stretch and place minute tears in the muscle fibers. This causes the release of lactic acid. This acid (and fluid buildup) causes the stiffness and soreness you feel. When the muscles repair themselves, they add more muscle fibers on top of the existing fibers causing you to be bigger and stronger.
