Pushups: How many reps and sets should I do to build and strengthen muscles?
Filed Under Building Muscle Tips | 1 Comment
I weigh about 250, so I figure that just by sheer size, doing push-ups will build muscle, but I don’t feel or see results. I’m looking to strengthen and more importantly, build muscle:triceps, shoulders(front, middle, back) and pecs. Let me know any other things I can do besides push-ups that will work my shoulders.

Ok me and my brother started lifting weights in December ‘06 – we’re doing it to build muscle but we’re doing it different ways, and I tell him that he’s wrong… so tell me which is best?
the one I do
Scenario 1.) I lift the heaviest amount of resistance that I can do 3 sets of 8 reps each, then I do it till I can get to 12 reps each… when I can dot that easily, I start back at 8 reps, and repeat until I gradually increase resistance over time…I’ve gained about 15-20 lbs. in the 8 months I’ve been doing this, is this good? I’ve also noticed that it’s kinda toning and sculpting too, maybe because I have virtually no body fat.
the one my brother does
Scenario 2.) He does it on a daily basis like I do, but he puts as much weight on it as he can lift all together, like competition weight lifters or something… where he can barely do it at all, one time. Then he’ll wait a little while and do it again. I kinda see him getting bigger, but does this build muscle?

So, in addition to proteins, what types of muscle building supplements are there? Which of them are dangerous/illegal? and how do i decide which ones to use?

I tried looking up at some answers here and none of those have answer for skinny people. My weight is only around 55kg which is quite bad for me. I really want to build muscles without going to the gym (because of $$$).

I’ve been wondering what some other people take for building up muscle – also what your favorite pre-workout and post-workout foods or supplements are!

Can someone explain the difference between toning and building muscle ?
Filed Under Building Muscle Tips | 6 Comments
I’m really confused about what exactly the goal of strength training and light weight lifting is…
On one hand, people say it will tone your muscles, making them smaller, tighter, and firmer
Then on the other hand people say you’re building muscle……which sounds like bulking up, not getting smaller!
What is the difference, please?
So, if I’m a girl and do light leg weights….
Are they going to get bigger or smaller?

I have at least 25 pound to lose around my mid section and I don’t want to build muscle under the fat. Should I lose the fat first then build the muscle?
Thanks
Thanks for all the constructive answers. The reason I ask the questions is not because I don”t want to do the work I just don’t want to build up muscle under fat and look fatter.
Anywho I appreciate all the ACTUAL answers.

Can you explain how building muscle (especially in the legs) helps to burn fat more efficently?
Filed Under Building Muscle Tips | 6 Comments
I have been riding a stationary recumbent bike 30-90 minutes a day for a month. While I have only lost 3 pounds so far, I see a huge difference in my body. I have heard that building more muscle mass is the key to burning fat but I would like to know how and why. Thanks for your input!
